Rebel's Revenge

A bottle of whiskey from Blind Cleary who's brewery is no more
he gave me the last bottle before he shut his door
A battle for pride and justice that could no longer stand
so gather up your weapons to fight with your fellow man
So rip that rag and hold it tight, strike a match light up the night
the ones with no home their roof is the sky
Knees bent shoulder tight throw that bottle with all your might
you have to fight if you want to survive
They stood together high on the hill staring at the face of freedom
the way it had to be for their family's and their needs
The battle began at dusk with a fierce and mighty scream
by morning it was over with their hopes and all their dreams
As the dust began to settle around the homes once standing there
the brave young warriors stood in silence with a blank, distant stare
Wiping the tears out of their eyes they knew just what to do
Rebuild their homes, restore their lives, they had to start a new

Battle Of Eureka

Eighteen hundred and Fifty Four I found gold but wanted more
set sail for Victoria's shores
I pitched my tent in Ballarat picked up a shovel and tossed my hat
I dug for a fortune in the hard baked soil
Decree went out across the land for thirty shillings you can have your hand
but a licence i could not afford
The Queen's men came and scoured the fields for miscreant poor and vagrant
they dragged those away that couldn't pay
This land's no more yours than it's ours
We've toiled for gold wiped sweat off our brows
We wont pay more to seek it now
To hell with Queen Victoria
Laylor said enough's enough these licences we'll turn to snuff
stand for our right to seek gold
A man was murdered and a pub was burnt, to men we quickly
learnt miners rights they count for naught
We hoisted aloft our flag of stars, stood together with pride
under these folds we'll fight or die
The Queen's men came one early morn, charged our faces full of scorn
but we fought brave and we fought true
They cut us down thirty men lay dead, the rest lay scattered in a dusty bed
a few stood trial in traitor's court
But our rights we won to mine, cheaply for all and one
Laylor was elected to the parliament floor

Queensberry Rules

Head west they say better work better pay
I've been chasing these rails filled with venom
I'm leaving today, copper said i couldn't say
Crows will have to wait, I wont go back to Moreton Bay
You better play by Queensberry rules when Sunday comes around
To hell with Queensberry rules in old Brisbane town
These streets are no place for fighting said the copper with exact timing
The fight was set for Sunday the news travelled like lightning
Sunday morn I wish the sun didn't rise, Steven's was a man with hate in his eyes
He cut a shearer to ribbons for a slant on his size
You better play by Queensberry rules when Sunday comes around
To hell with Queensberry rules in old Brisbane town
Rumor had spread about the stock yard brawl, desperate's were climbing over the walls
Vinegar soaked hands and a warrior's code boxed in this sandy earth with nowhere to go
Stevens hit me with a smashing blow on the nose, as my lip swelled up the crowd rose
Half blinded blood running down my chest what I did next was a warning to my foes
You better play by Queensberry rules when Sunday comes around
to hell with Queensberry rules in old Brisbane town
I didn't play by Queensberry rules, I couldn't play by Queensberry rules,
To hell with Queensberry rules in old Brisbane town
Don't come no more to Brisbane if you'd like to stay alive,
You keep your rules and society i'll keep my pride
